Terms of Service
Last updated: 15 August 2026
These terms govern your use of railroute.in and the RailRoute web application (the “Service”), operated by Dhruv Shah. By using the Service you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
RailRoute is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Indian Railways, IRCTC, or any Government of India entity. Train names and station codes are used for identification only.
RailRoute does not sell tickets and never takes a payment. Fares are estimates and seat availability changes continuously; the exact fare and the actual booking are confirmed on IRCTC.
1. What RailRoute is — and is not
RailRoute is an information tool. It reads publicly available railway timetable and seat-availability information and suggests ways to complete a journey when a direct booking is unavailable, including splitting a ticket on the same train, boarding at an earlier station or alighting at a later one, departing from a nearby station, and journeys made of two connecting trains.
RailRoute does not sell tickets, does not reserve seats and does not take payments. No booking of any kind is completed on RailRoute. It is not a travel agent, not a ticketing agent and not a carrier.
RailRoute is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Indian Railways, IRCTC, or any Government of India entity. Train names, train numbers and station codes are used for identification only.
2. Bookings happen elsewhere
Every journey suggested by the Service must be booked by you on IRCTC or through another authorised booking channel. That booking is a contract between you and the relevant operator or agent, and is governed by their terms, cancellation rules, quota rules and refund policies — not by these terms. You are responsible for reading and complying with them.
Where a suggestion involves more than one ticket (for example, a split ticket on the same train, or two connecting trains), each ticket is a separate booking with its own rules. A delay, cancellation or missed connection affecting one ticket does not automatically entitle you to anything in respect of the other.
3. Accuracy: availability and fares
Seat availability on Indian Railways changes continuously. Information shown by the Service is a snapshot from the moment your search was run and may already be out of date by the time you read it. A waitlist position, an availability count or a class shown as open may differ from what the booking channel shows seconds later.
All fares shown anywhere in the Service are estimates. Quotas, surcharges, catering charges, dynamic pricing and rounding can all change the final amount. The exact fare is the one presented to you at IRCTC checkout, and only that amount is binding.
Timetable data, distances, running days and journey durations may contain errors, may be incomplete, and may not reflect the latest changes published by the operator. Always confirm the details of your journey with the operator or booking channel before you travel.
4. Service provided “as is”
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness or non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Dhruv Shah does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any suggestion it produces will be available, bookable, permitted under the applicable quota rules, or suitable for your journey.
5. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Dhruv Shah shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service, including but not limited to:
- a missed train, missed connection, denied boarding, or a journey not completed;
- a fare that differs from an estimate shown in the Service;
- a booking that fails, is cancelled, is not confirmed, or is refused at any stage;
- a penalty, excess fare or other charge levied by the operator or its staff;
- availability information that was accurate when fetched but had changed by the time you attempted to book;
- any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, including lost profits, lost bookings, or wasted expenditure.
You are solely responsible for deciding whether a suggested journey is appropriate for you, for verifying it before you pay, and for arriving at the correct station at the correct time.
The Service carries no insurance, guarantee, warranty or compensation scheme of any kind. Dhruv Shah will not reimburse, indemnify, compensate or pay damages to any person for a fare, a ticket, a cancellation charge, a replacement journey, accommodation, onward travel, or any other cost arising from acting on information shown here. RailRoute takes no payment from you and receives no part of any fare, so no refund can arise from it. Any refund, compensation or claim in respect of a ticket lies solely against the operator or the booking channel that sold it, under their rules.
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, the total aggregate liability of Dhruv Shah to you for all claims arising out of or in connection with the Service is limited to one thousand rupees (₹1,000).
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
6. Split tickets and connecting journeys — read this
RailRoute’s most useful suggestions involve booking more than one ticket for what you experience as a single journey: splitting a ticket partway along a train, or taking two connecting trains. These are ordinary, permitted ways to travel, but they carry risks that a single through-ticket does not, and you should understand them before you book.
- Each ticket is a separate PNR and a separate contract. Indian Railways treats them as unrelated journeys. Protections that apply within one booking — a guaranteed connection, automatic rebooking, or a refund when a connection is missed — generally do not apply across two bookings.
- One leg failing does not release you from the other. If the first leg is delayed, cancelled or diverted and you miss the second, the second ticket may be forfeited and no refund may be due.
- A split may not keep you in the same seat. Two tickets on the same train are usually two different berths, and may be in different coaches or different classes. You may have to move mid-journey, possibly at night.
- Waitlisted legs may never confirm. A journey shown as possible can cease to be possible before the chart is prepared.
- Boarding-point rules apply. If a ticket starts at a station before the one you board at, you must comply with the operator’s boarding-point rules, and failing to do so can result in the ticket being treated as invalid.
By using these suggestions you accept those risks. Dhruv Shah is not liable for any consequence of a split or connecting journey, including a forfeited ticket, a missed connection, a penalty or excess fare, an unmade onward journey, or the cost of alternative travel or accommodation.
7. Acceptable use
