What RailRoute is

Last updated: 20 August 2026

RailRoute is an independent journey planner for India. It treats a trip as a sequence of legs — two trains with one change, or a flight and a train — and ranks those beside the direct trains, with live seat checks. When the through booking is waitlisted, it still looks for a confirmed split.

Important

RailRoute is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Indian Railways, IRCTC, or any Government of India entity. Train names and station codes are used for identification only.

RailRoute does not sell tickets and never takes a payment. Fares are estimates and seat availability changes continuously; the exact fare and the actual booking are confirmed on IRCTC.

Why it exists

On a busy route the useful answer is often not the first train. A local would change at the better junction, start two stops earlier, leave from the other terminus, or fly the long gap and take a train the rest of the way. Those checks are tedious, and there are thousands of trains and a few thousand flights to try them on. That is a computer’s job.

What it does

  • Finds direct trains between two stations on a date, with live seat status.
  • Ranks one-change train journeys and mixed train-and-flight itineraries beside those directs.
  • Looks for split points on the same train, where two tickets are available although one is not.
  • Checks earlier boarding stations, later alighting stations, and nearby terminals in the same city.

What it is not

  • Not a ticket seller. RailRoute issues no tickets and takes no payments. Every journey it finds is booked by you on IRCTC or another authorised channel.
  • Not official. RailRoute is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Indian Railways, IRCTC, or any Government of India entity. Train names and station codes are used for identification only.
  • Not a guarantee. Seat availability changes continuously and fares shown are estimates; confirm both at IRCTC checkout before you pay. See the Terms of Service.
