How to read seat availability on RailRoute
RailRoute does not hold inventory and does not sell tickets. Seat status on a search is a snapshot from the moment you searched, shown with the time it was read. The status that counts is the one IRCTC shows at checkout.

What the statuses mean

What RailRoute will not do
- Guarantee a berth. Availability moves continuously.
- Promise that a waitlist will clear. We say how often comparable ones have — see below — and that is a different sentence.
- Print “confirmed” over RAC or a waitlist.
- Show seat status on cached train, station or route pages, where it would look current and not be.
The reading beside a waitlist
A waitlisted class carries a short reading — Likely, Good, Fair or Low — drawn as three bars. It answers one question: how often have waitlists like this one ended up on the train? Like this one means the same train, the same class, the same quota and a similar position in the queue.
Boarding, not a berth. RAC counts as boarding, because an RAC ticket gets you on the train. So a “Likely” reading does not say you will get a confirmed berth — many of the journeys behind it boarded on RAC, which is a shared side-berth rather than a bed.
It is a record, not a forecast of your ticket. Charts decide, a few hours before departure, from cancellations nobody can see in advance. The reading describes what has happened before on that train; it cannot know what will happen to yours, and nothing is owed if it goes the other way.
Where there is no reading, we say nothing. Below the evidence we are willing to speak on, the class simply carries no bars. A missing reading means we are not telling you — not that the answer is bad.
We publish no percentage for it. A number invites arithmetic at a booking screen and reads as a commitment we have not made; the four words are the whole claim.

Run a search, or open a route page and pick a date. When nothing on a train is bookable, other tickets may still be.
